Very underrated place to play...

Not the longest course in Alabama, but one of the best at giving the golfer a fair challenge and a thoughtful layout. Being private, you should call ahead and see if you can get a slot, but it's not impossible. Some of its elements are unique -- back-to-back par 3s at the end of the front nine, a more-than-90-degree dogleg 11th hole. The course gets progressively narrower from start to finish. The first hole, built on the site on an old landing strip, is wide and welcoming. By the time you get to 18, it's target golf. Big hitters can make hay on the front nine, but spray-ballers will wish they'd skipped the back nine. The second nine is less than 10 years old and was designed by a different design team, so you'll be on your toes. Negatives: Not public, a handful of weak holes on the front. Positives: If you hate water, you're in luck; it only comes into play once. Also, the old clubhouse is welcoming and serene. Definitely some of the best golf at its price point in the state.
