I live in Arizona but spend most of the summer in Logan, Utah. Birch Creek is a great course. The fairways and greens are well manicured, and the sand traps are soft and deep. The course is situated in the Cache Valley surrounded by beautiful mountains which are snow-capped through June.....absolutely beautiful. Deer are abundant.
A few holes are fairly flat and straight forward. Most, however, are quite interesting...water hazards, hilly fairways, heavily treed areas, creeks and ponds, and deep ravines. One bit of advice: The greens tend to run away from the mountains regardless of your initial putting impression.
My favorite two holes are the par 3 number 3 and the par 5 number 18. Number 3 is a great water hole with a lake in front of the T-box which is fed by a not-so-obvious creek to the left of the green....favor the right side of the green with your T-shot. 18 is a dog-leg right which tends to suck your drive to the trees/thick rough on the right....can turn an otherwise good round into a complete disaster. Aim for the left side of the fairway. The 18th green is highly elevated, more so than any hole I've ever seen. You'll be astounded, especially if you're walking the course.
The pro-shop staff and greens workers are extremely friendly and courteous at Birch Creek. They'll make you feel like you're a founding member at an exclusive country club! Green fees are very low, almost free compared to Arizona winter standards :-)
My second favorite Logan area course is the Logan River Golf Course. The green fees are similar to Birch Creek but it's somewhat more crowded. Bring plenty of balls...errant T-shots can be a disaster.
